How to play Snake

Choose a round of Snake and settle into its rules. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Check the rule that explains your first action. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Step by step

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use one clear input at a time.

A useful example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Check the rule before repeating the action. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
